What is Aloe Vera?
Aloe Vera is a succulent plant that grows abundantly in tropical climates and belongs to a plant species genus Aloe. Over the years Aloe Vera juices have been used for skin care and medicine, this mostly from the raw juices or gel that come from the plant. The gel is a thick, gooey like liquid extracted from the plants leaves.
Extracting Aloe Vera
By Companies – The extraction process consists of grinding or crushing the leaf of the Aloe Vera plant, the filtering the liquid of the crushed plant leaving it in a raw purified form called “Pure Aloe Vera Gel.”
By Yourself – Wash the Aloe Vera plant, press the leaves to soften them. Using a knife, slit the leaves open and then use a spoon to extract the juice of the leaves into a bowl.
Benefits of Aloe Vera for the Skin
Aloe Vera penetrates the outer skin layer (epidermis) by as much as four times faster than water, and also can increase skin cell regeneration and production eight times faster because it contains polysaccharides which stimulate the growth of new cells.
Aloe Vera is a nutrient powerhouse. It contains about 75 active ingredients like minerals, sugars, vitamins, enzymes, salicylic acids, and also amino acids. In terms of vitamins, aloe contains vitamins A, C, E, and B12. Moreover, it is also rich in folic acid and choline. The mineral wealth in aloe contains calcium, potassium, zinc, chromium, copper, selenium, magnesium, manganese, and sodium. It also contains glucose and fructose. Aloe contains some incredibly amazing phenolic compounds like anthraquinones.
Aloe Vera as a moisturizer
It’s perfect for improving hydration of dry flaky skin without leaving your skin with a greasy feel. It has soothing properties that help restore smooth, supple skin, giving protection from dullness brought on by dry skin, giving your skin a naturally more vibrant appearance.

More benefits of Aloe Vera
Aloe Vera Soothes Sunburn, Rashes and Skin Irritations– Aloe vera has protective properties that keep the skin protected from UV light which reduces symptoms of sunburn. This protective layer also helps retain moisture, soothing sunburns and all skin irritations. Aloe has anti-inflammatory properties and is rich in antioxidants and beneficial skin minerals that help heal and soothe damaged skin and counteract the free radicals which damage your skin cells that cause inflammation and redness.
Aloe Vera as an Exfoliator– Aloe Vera helps rid the skin of toxins, chemical and foreign material and other skin impurities which allows the oxygen needed to soften and strengthen the skins tissues. Using Aloe Vera is a way of grooming your skin and will help reveal glowing fresh skin.
Mix ½ cup of Aloe Vera Gel with 1-2 Tbls. Baking Soda. Apply by gently by rubbing on rough, flaky or dry skin to reveal softer, smoother skin. Can be used on acne or rashes as well.
Fight Aging with Aloe Vera– Due to extreme exposure to pollution, dirt, chemicals, toxins, too much of the sun’s rays on your skin on a daily basis leads to early signs of aging. Aloe Vera is rich in Vitamins C and E which bring out its anti-aging qualities. It will reduce acne irritation, inflammation, stretch marks and wrinkles as it lightens blemishes, improves the skin’s elasticity and helps increase collagen production. A great way to take a few years from your face!
Use It as a Makeup Remover– There is no need to use wipes to get rid of makeup anymore. A healthier and natural solution is using Aloe Vera which has the same ability as wipes. Simply apply Aloe Vera to a cotton ball and carefully wipe away your makeup. (Again, also helps any acne symptoms, etc., at the same time.)
Helps in clearing blemishes and gets rid of acne–
Its anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties give it the ability to work wonders in removing discolorations and reducing acne. Aloe also has the ability to stimulate cell growth fast which accelerates the healing process of acne. Here’s a formula for acne and acne scars:
Mix together: 1 Tbls. Aloe Vera Gel and 2-3 drops of Lemon Juice. Massage into whole face or areas affected by acne before going to bed.
Or… you can try Hummingbird’s Tangerine Lemon Toner. Ingredients include: Aloe Vera, Apple Cider Vinegar, Witch Hazel and Ginseng Extracts and Tangerine and Lemon essential oils.
